A recession does not necessarily mean that recruiting will cease altogether. There may be less recruiting work than before, which means you will have to cut back on expenses. Look for inexpensive ways to ramp up your recruiting efforts.
This might be the time to focus on
- Advertising channels and recruitment ads/messages that allow you to recruit faster and cheaper and reach more people than any other method.
- Investments in technology that can automate and/or speed-up sourcing and screening of large volumes of resumes.
- Client relationships.
- Hiring interns to overcome staff resources that are spread thin, etc.

The Live search engine uses the location search command to allow users to restrict searches to pages from certain regions. Unlike the Yahoo! region command, the location search command allows users to target countries rather than land masses.
The search syntax is as follows
location:
For example, if you are looking for resumes of Business Analysts in the United States, your search string will be
location:us intitle:resume "Business Analyst" -sample -apply -jobs
You will find this search string pretty useful in finding candidates for your International assignments.
The whole world is experiencing the effects of one of the worst recessions in history that has resulted in a global financial instability. Businesses have hit the all-time low and unemployment rate has touched the all-time high. Massive layoffs have engulfed more than 2.5 million jobs over the past 12 months in the U.S. alone. Interestingly, job cuts have resulted in a surge of resumes in job boards. Majority of the companies have also shrunk their recruiting budgets to a larger extent.
Despite all these events, recruitment has not been stopped completely; the employers are very selective in recruiting the right candidate. So as a recruiter, you need to look through several resumes from different sources to find the best candidates. As sourcing resumes from job boards is quite expensive, the only place where you can source resumes for FREE is the Internet. Even experts have identified that sourcing resumes using search engines is one of the key areas that need to be focused in the year 2009 to help tide over the current crisis.
Typically a simple resume search, for example in Google, will fetch you resumes along with a lot of other unwanted data. You have to manually filter the resumes from the search results. Expert recruiters use advanced search queries to eliminate the unwanted data and narrow down the search results to appropriate resumes.
The advanced search queries constitute Boolean search options (AND, OR, NOT) and other advanced search techniques that enables you to find resumes using various search parameters (title, url, site, link, file type, group, etc.). However the major challenge is, to use these advanced Google search queries, you need to be an expert in writing and structuring the search queries. In addition, whenever you search for resumes using a keyword, you need to generate a lot of search queries which is time consuming and tiresome.
For a recruiter, spending hours and hours of time in just sourcing the resumes is a tough ask. This is where an automation tool like ResumeFinder can make a huge difference by offering the competitive edge over your competitors. It is a simple but powerful resume search tool that takes away all your pain from spending long hours, and writing and memorizing complicated search queries on a daily basis. It helps you find the exact resumes in a few seconds by just entering the keyword. ResumeFinder helps you to source resumes from resume sites, social networking sites, personal websites, blogs and other Internet communities using search engines like Google, Yahoo, Live, AltaVista and AlltheWeb.
